About CamelBak
- An IV bag, a tube sock, a clothespin and a thin hose—this was the very first version of a CamelBak. Michael Eidson concocted it in preparation for a grueling 100-mile bicycle race through Texas. As a medical technician, he knew the importance of hydration. As a bicycle enthusiast, Eidson realized the advantages to being able to hydrate hands-free. This is unquestionably the Best product in the market for hydration. it is versatile and performs incredibly well both in hot and cold climates.
The ONLY drawback is the price...

I used a Camelbak 3L Thermobak in ACU camo for my entire mobilization training (4.5 months long) and never had a single problem from it. No leaks, kept the water nice and cold all day.
If you're in a really hot area like I am, I suggest going behind the dfac and getting a bag of ice...load your Thermobak down with as much ice as you can, then fill with water. The ice will melt due to the heat and you'll have nice, cool water all day. This was a lifesaver during mob.
Funny, when I was in Iraq, I never wore it because we had ice chests with 1L water bottles literally EVERYWHERE we went. Would've worked great there too though.
I'm going to use it for hydration on long bike rides now. Looking forward to some much-needed cardio training (injured in Iraq...getting better now...)
Gets the job done, but that's about it.

I'm an avid hiker, and take this with me every time. It's very sturdy and can hold more than enough water. It has many, many improvements over the cheaper civvie models, which is why I decided to go with this instead (anti-frosting cover on the hose and better nipple, for example). It's very easy to take down and clean, and very simple to operate.
The only drawback is that you can't store anything large in this without it seriously diminishing your ability to store water in it. You can probably get away with a compass, some papers, small items in there, but I would not use this as anything more than a day-pack/water-pack. If you intend to use this as a backpack as well, you should definitely get the larger models built into a backpack.

This camelbak is amazing. It easily fills up and is nice a light too. It fits a good amount of water, but doesn't have much room for anything else, which fit my needs. This thing is a must have if you plan on going on short hikes, cycling or are just doing anything outdoors in the heat.

I bought this camelbak right before a short deployment to Saudi Arabia. It preformed perfectly through the heat and sand. The bladder is very strong. It dealt with being squished in a Humvee and between ammo cans with out popping. Definitely worth the price.
